C.A.D.E.T. is a training app run by Barlow Labs. It holds what you log in the gym, the clips you choose to film, and what you say to your coach. This page says exactly what that is, who can see it, and what leaves the app — including the parts that are weaker than we would like.
The agreement itself — what the app promises and what it does not — is on Terms.
What it holds
Your account. You sign in with Google. We receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google, and nothing else — not your contacts, your calendar, or anything else in your Google account. We never see your password.
Your training. Every set you log: the machine, the exercise, the weight, and the date. This is the point of the app, and it is kept for as long as your account exists, because a training history that expires is not a training history.
Form clips. Video you film at a machine, with sound, plus anything you say into the voice note. Each clip is stored with the lift and the weight it belongs to.
Conversations. Messages between you and your coach, the group thread you share with everyone your coach trains, and your conversations with the app's AI.
A few notes about you. The app keeps a short summary of what it has learned from your training and anything you have told it — an injury you mentioned, a holiday coming up — so the advice is not generic.
Your devices, if you turn on notifications. A push address for each browser, and the browser's own description of itself. Nothing else about the device.
Crashes, when the app breaks. The error message and the programmer's stack trace, the page you were on, your browser's description of itself, and your account id so we can tell whether it happened to one person or everybody. A stack trace can carry whatever was on the screen at the time, which is why nobody reads these through the app — not you, not your coach — only us, on an admin screen, and they are deleted after 90 days.
What stays on your phone
When you film a lift, the skeleton overlay is computed on your phone and never uploaded. The app measures your joint positions frame by frame to draw those lines — that data is discarded when you finish filming. Only the video itself is uploaded, and only if you keep sharing on.
When you speak a weight instead of typing it, the speech recognition is your browser's own. We receive the number, not the recording.
Who can see it
Your buddy group. If you join one, the people in it see your working weights on the shared Trends charts. They do not see your clips, your messages, or your notes from your coach.
Your coach, if you have one. Coaching in this app is a two-way agreement — nobody becomes your coach without you accepting. Your coach can see the sets you log, the clips you have marked as shared, the notes the app has learned about your training, and your one-to-one conversation. They cannot see clips you keep private, and they lose all of it the moment you disconnect from them.
Coaches may be contractors. Some coaches on this app are paid contractors, and may be outside your country. They are bound not to download, republish or reuse your clips. The coach who can see your training is always named in the app, in the corner of the screen.
Us. Barlow Labs staff can reach the database in order to run and fix the app.
How clips are protected
Clips are stored privately. Nobody can fetch one by knowing its address — the storage refuses any request that the app has not signed, including from us, and including from anyone who has been sent a link.
When you or your coach open a page with a clip on it, the app mints a link that works for two hours and only for that clip. If that link is copied out of the app it will play until it expires, and then stop — so a link is worth treating carefully for an afternoon, and worth nothing after it.
What leaves the app
Hosting and storage. The app runs on Vercel; your account, training and clips live in Supabase. Both store data on servers in the United States.
The AI coach. When you ask C.A.D.E.T. for a workout or a question, your recent training numbers, your gym's equipment list and the notes the app has learned about you are sent to Anthropic's Claude models through Vercel's AI Gateway to produce the answer. Your name and email are not sent.
The spoken voice. When the app reads your target aloud, the sentence — which contains the exercise name and the weight, and not your name — is sent to Google's Gemini API to be turned into audio, and the audio is then cached so the same sentence is never sent twice. On the free tier we currently use, Google states that prompts may be reviewed by people and used to improve their models. If that is not acceptable to you, do not use the speaker button; every line it reads is also on the screen.
Voice notes. If you record a spoken note with a clip, its text is summarised by Claude in the same way.
We do not sell anything to anyone, we run no advertising, and there are no analytics or tracking scripts in this app.
What is kept on your device
A sign-in cookie, so you stay signed in. Beyond that the app stores a few preferences locally — whether the pose overlay is on, whether new clips are shared by default, the day's workout, and the voice lines it has already fetched so it does not fetch them again. Signing out deletes all of it.
Clips are deleted after 30 days
The point of filming a lift is feedback: your coach watches it, says something, and you change what you do. A month is long enough for that to happen. After it, the clip is deleted — the file, not just the record of it — and we keep no copy.
Every clip shows how long it has left, and a button that saves it to your phone. Anything you want to keep, keep it there.
Deleting one thing rather than everything
Every clip on your clips has a delete control. It removes the video file itself, not just the record of it, along with any notes your coach left on that clip. It cannot be undone.
Your choices
Sharing a clip is per clip. The camera has a share toggle, and every clip in Your Clips can be switched between shared and private afterwards. A private clip is never shown to your coach.
You can leave a coach or a buddy group at any time, from the app, without asking anyone.
Notifications are off until you turn them on, and only ever tell you that your coach has done something for you — a note on a clip, a plan, a message. Never a reminder to train.
Your data is yours. Both of these are buttons on your account page, not a request you have to make and wait on. Download everything we hold as a file, or delete your account — which removes your sets, your clips and their video files, your plans, your messages and your devices, immediately and permanently. There is no copy to restore from, so take the file first if you want to keep it. Messages you sent to a group thread stay visible to the people who received them, as any sent message does. If anything fails, email founder@barlow-labs.com and it will be finished by hand.
Children
C.A.D.E.T. is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly keep data about them. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we will remove it.
This is not medical advice
C.A.D.E.T. suggests weights from your own history, and a coach may comment on your technique. Neither is medical advice, and neither is a diagnosis. If something hurts beyond ordinary soreness, see someone qualified.
Changes, and getting in touch
If this page changes in a way that affects what we do with your data, we will say so in the app rather than quietly update the date at the top.
