C.A.D.E.T.

Terms

Last updated 15 September 2026

This is the agreement between you and Barlow Labs for using C.A.D.E.T. It is short, and it is meant to be read. What we do with your data is a separate page: Privacy.

What this is

C.A.D.E.T. records what you lift, suggests what to lift next from your own history, and — if you have one — puts a coach on the other side of it. You sign in with Google; that account is yours and you are responsible for what happens under it.

It is early software, built by two people and run on a small budget. Features change, screens move, and some things are unfinished. If that is not what you want from a training log, this is the honest moment to say so.

It is not medical advice

Weights suggested by the app come from arithmetic on your own logs. Advice from a coach is that coach's opinion. Neither is medical advice, neither is a diagnosis, and neither knows about your heart, your back or the thing you did to your shoulder in 2019.

Training is physical and carries risk of injury. You decide what to lift. If something hurts beyond ordinary soreness, stop and see someone qualified.

Your coach is not our employee

Coaches on C.A.D.E.T. are independent. We check that the credentials they claim are real, and we give them the tools in this app — a queue, a plan builder, a message thread. We do not stand behind their judgement, review every message they send, or supervise what they tell you to do.

Coaching here is a two-way agreement: one side asks, the other agrees, and either of you can end it from the app without explaining why. Nothing obliges you to keep a coach you do not want. If a coach behaves badly, tell us at founder@barlow-labs.com — that is a thing we will act on.

Filming in a gym

The camera is there so you and your coach can look at a lift. Before you use it: gyms have their own rules about filming, and other people on the floor did not agree to be in your video. Both are your responsibility, not ours.

Film yourself. Do not film anyone who has not said yes, and do not use this app to record anyone in a changing room, a bathroom, or anywhere else a person expects privacy. An account doing that will be removed without warning.

How long we keep a clip

Thirty days. Filming a lift is for feedback, not for an archive — a month is long enough for a coach to watch it and say something, and after that we delete the file and keep no copy.

Every clip shows how many days it has left and carries a button that saves it to your phone. If you want one for longer than a month, that is the way to keep it, and it is yours once you have.

What stays yours

Your sets, your clips, your notes and your messages are yours. We do not claim ownership of them and we do not sell them.

By putting them in the app you allow us to store them and show them to the people you chose — your coach, your buddies — which is the whole mechanism by which the app works. That permission covers nothing else, and it ends when you delete the thing, or your account.

What is expected of you

Do not use someone else's account, upload anything illegal, try to reach data that is not yours, or point automated traffic at the app. Do not use C.A.D.E.T. to harass anybody — a group thread with five people in it is still a place where that matters.

You must be 16 or older. If we find an account belonging to someone younger we will remove it.

Money

Using C.A.D.E.T. on your own costs nothing. Coaching — a coach who reviews your week, writes your plans, answers your messages and holds a call with you on Sunday — is a subscription: the first week is free, then $19.99 a month. Of every month you pay, $15.00 goes to your coach. The rest keeps the app running.

You give a card when the free week starts and are charged nothing until it ends. You can cancel any time from the Coach screen; you keep coaching until the end of the period you have paid for and are not charged again. Charges are made by Stripe, and we never see your card number.

Anyone who already had a coach when this was introduced keeps that arrangement free.

Ending it

You can delete your account whenever you like, from Account. That removes your sets, clips, plans and messages, and it cannot be undone — the same page will hand you a copy of everything first.

We can close an account that is being used to harm somebody, and we will say why. Short of that, we will not delete your data without telling you.

What we do not promise

We do not promise the app is available, that a suggestion is right, that a clip finished uploading on gym wifi, or that a coach replies quickly. There is no service level here and no guaranteed backup: treat C.A.D.E.T. as a useful record, not the only copy of something you cannot lose.

To the extent the law allows, Barlow Labs is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, and our total liability is limited to what you have paid us — which, today, is nothing. Some places do not allow those limits, and where that is true, they do not apply to you.

The law, and where arguments go

These terms are governed by the law of the United States and of the state in which Barlow Labs is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you live somewhere that gives you rights this page cannot take away, you keep them.

Before anything formal: email founder@barlow-labs.com. Most of what ends up in a clause like this is a misunderstanding that one message would have settled.

Changes

If these terms change in a way that affects what you agreed to, we will say so in the app rather than quietly update the date at the top. Carrying on using C.A.D.E.T. after that is how you accept the change; if you would rather not, delete your account and take your data with you.

Questions, or something here that does not match what you see in the app: founder@barlow-labs.com.
